Salesforce.com has launched a campaign appealing to its community to support Haiti earthquake relief agencies.

Agencies are struggling to assist millions of people affected by Tuesday's devastating earthquake and Salesforce.com is seeking to raise $500,000 to assist World Vision and Red Cross with their efforts.

Initially the SaaS firm's philanthropic arm, Salesforce.com Foundation, said it would match dollar-for-dollar any donations from its community of customers, partners, employees and friends, up to $100,000. But the reponse to this was so positive that the firm is now pledging to match up to $250,000, raising a total of half a million dollars.

"We have had a huge response," CEO Marc Benioff told BusinessCloud9. "We are expanding our match fund."

A message on the site reads: "As we learn more about the extent of the catastrophe and watch aid efforts kick into gear, you can lend a hand by making a donation to relief agencies on the front lines. Through the Salesforce.com Foundation's matching program, you can double the impact of your donation to one of two organisation's we've been working with: the Red Cross and World Vision. If you donate even $2, that alone is more than what most of Haiti's population survives on per day."
