Launch day for CloudApps

CloudApps, the cloud-based carbon management vendor, has officially launched today, just days after the government’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme came into effect.

The company, headed up by former salesforce.com director (as well as a former executive at Accenture, Business Objects and Siebel) Simon Wheeldon, CloudApps is the first European enterprise application vendor in the carbon management sector. When BusinessCloud9 last caught up with Wheeldon, at CloudForce2 in London last December, the company was in the process of putting together their client base. Four months on, and Wheeldon was quick to point out the company’s gathering momentum.

“Since [CloudForce2] we’ve been in the process of building the third release of the solution; we’ve already got clients up and running on the second release, but we’re putting together the third release all around the CRC that’s finally been finalised by the Environment Agency,” Wheeldon told BusinessCloud9.com. “Off the back of the new stuff that’s just arrived from the Environment Agency we’re reflecting it into the product, which will be available to our customers in the next few weeks.”

The CloudApps CEO also confirmed clients from within both the private and public sectors would be revealed before the middle of July (“within 90 days”), and highlight some of the success stories. Wheeldon did however outline that successes were already being felt, even early this early on. “We’re seeing very advantageous low cost wins which can have a dramatic effect. It depends on how efficient they are; some are looking at energy reduction for some time, whilst others are new to it. There are typically some quick wins,” Wheeldon told BusinessCloud9.com. “One customer has measured a 5% reduction just by being able to understand at a more granular level the amount of energy being used.”

Despite the CRC coming into effect as of 1 April, Wheeldon pointed out that businesses affected by the scheme (around 5,000 of the largest organisations across the country and a further 15,000 on the fringe) would be unable to get help and advice from the Environment Agency until after the General Election on 6 May. “We’ve opened a helpdesk for a lot of these organisations, and we’ve had a lot of calls and queries coming in through that. On the surface CRC seems quite straightforward, but it doesn’t take much to scratch underneath that surface and it becomes quite complex for these organisations.”

In a separate statement, Wheeldon said: “Carbon management is a rapidly growing business issue. Using CloudApp’s innovative cloud-based technology, enterprises can measure, monitor and engage with all their employees to dramatically reduce carbon emissions. By doing this they can drive significant cost savings, comply with climate change legislation and further enhance their brand. I am convinced this approach will make CloudApps a global leader in this exciting new space.”
