Cloud Computing is different to many other models of computing in so far as its introduction to an organisation is often driven by line of business executives rather than IT management. For that reason, Cloud Computing can be seen as helping to bridge the divide between IT and the business and its adoption is often driven by business or management drivers rather than technology concerns.

These drivers include organisational agility, total cost of ownership (TCO), budget concerns, the need more business-responsive IT systems and a desire to achieve more flexible and scalable computing resource.

We said that 2009 was the Year of the Cloud. We were wrong. In reality it was a year of the Cloud, albeit an important year. It was the year that Cloud Computing adoption gained sufficient traction that even if your organisation hadn't begun to roll out Cloud-based technologies, it needed at least to put them on the corporate agenda for consideration.
