CRM a key reason for Cloud migration

CRM is one of the most popular services for organisations to move to the Cloud and one of the most likely to add value, according to a new study.

Among organisations that have already gone down this route, just over a quarter use Cloud-based CRM or email archiving services compared with 33 per cent for email management and 22 per cent for storage. Nearly a fifth said that they found CRM provided them with the most value, while nearly a quarter believed that email had benefited them most.

These are the findings of a poll undertaken among 565 organisations by email management company Mimecast in autumn last year.

The survey found that that the most avid adopters were technology companies, financial services and legal firms, with government being the most reluctant.

Their main motivation, meanwhile, was cost savings – a factor cited by 54 per cent of respondents. Some 49 per cent liked the fact that they could add new services as required, while a further 39 per cent felt that such services helped them to boost efficiency.

But although 62 per cent indicated that they had either considered or were considering Cloud Computing, the key thing that put them off were security concerns (46 per cent).

Nearly a third indicated that they would not be migrating due to existing investments in IT infrastructure, however, while just over a quarter were worried about integration issues.

But of those companies that had already taken the leap, some 70 per cent said they planned to move more service to the Cloud, with the majority of this category saying they would do so in the next 12 months.
