Workday is set to deliver its SaaS HR and financial applications on Apple's iPhone. All 125 of the processes available in Workday's business process framework can be accessed and managed to some degree from the iPhone, according to CTO Stan Swete, although there are limitations, such as only being able to view a summary of expense reports.
"Today's workers expect anywhere/anytime access to rich business applications, and mobile devices such as the iPhone finally deliver a platform for business applications that are a pleasure to use," said Swete. "Workday's new mobile capabilities leverage our modern architecture, so we can deliver applications and functionality quickly and seamlessly, across a broad range of mobile platforms, while maintaining the Workday user experience our customers expect."
Users can now review, approve, deny and revise tasks from the Workday system and view the status of ongoing business processes. They can also search their compan directory for names, images and contact information and use this information to call or email co-workers directly and view physical addresses on Google Maps. Workday mobile applications include password and role-based security with time-out and sign-out preferences to align with customers' security requirements.
Existing Workday customers will make the transition in March while the application should be available soon as a free download from Apple's App Store. BlackBerry support is planned for later this year, although no firm date has been set.
