One year on from its acquisition by SAP, Business Objects has added a Salesforce.com accelerator for Cloud Computing, hoping to carve a niche as an integrator between SaaS and On Premise business intelligence implementations.
Business Objects already has SaaS links with Salesforce.com with integrations into CrystalReports.com, but the new Accelerator allows customers to rapidly build data warehouses centered around data from Salesforce.com. To use the service, all customers need do is provide Business Objects with a login to their Salesforce system.
It's part of BI OnDemand, a version of Business Objects flagship BusinessObjects XI suite, which includes applications for performance management, planning, reporting, query and analysis, and enterprise information management. But while the XI suite has applications which customers install on their own servers, Business Objects hosts BI OnDemand on its own servers.
Business Objects is counting on the fact that most enterprises will take a hybrid approach to the On Premise/On Demand debate and wants to be the bridge between the two camps, enabling data to be passed between the two. The firm also boasts that it is the only SaaS BI firm to take a horizontal, rather than a vertical, approach to On Demand BI. "Today we are giving customers a powerful solution to make all information accessible to all people on-demand, regardless of where it comes from, giving people the insight they need to thrive during the economic downturn," said Mani Gill, vice president, OnDemand Solutions, Business Objects. "This is a significant step forward for Business Objects' market leadership in on-demand BI and for our commitment to supporting our customers' heterogeneous computing systems.”
Schroders Investment Management North America is a CrystalReports.com customer that plans to make use of the Accelerator for Salesforce.com. "We are excited about the content creation and development environment capability because it will give us the speed and agility we need to create dynamic reports with the most current information," said Michael Leinweber, head of Digital for Americas, Schroder Investment Management North America. "The on-demand BI software from Business Objects can help us to quickly and easily consolidate all of our various types of data in the cloud and make sure we give our business users access to the data they need to make better business decisions."
