Martin Bellamy joined the Cabinet Office in July 2009 to take forwards the cross government strategy for Data Centres, Cloud Computing and sharing of business solutions/applications (the “Apps Store”). Previously Martin worked at the Department of Health which he joined in September 2008 as the Director of Programme and System Delivery. This included heading up the 1,500 strong NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) organisation, providing organisational leadership and a focus on enhancing partnerships with, and within the NHS. That appointment followed the strategic refocusing of IT leadership as part of the Health Informatics Review into how information can better be used, across the Department and the NHS.
Martin’s Civil Service career began in 2003 at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). His main role in DWP was Chief Information Officer (CIO) of The Pension Service - in parallel with this, he has also held several other positions including business change director, DWP Group Applications Director and DWP senior responsible officer for Information Management. Within the Government IT Profession, he is the National Competency Lead for Delivery Management. Prior to DWP he worked at Reuters, BT, KPMG and the Ashridge Business School.
Martin holds a BSc in Computing Science from Imperial College and an MSc in Management (Sloan) from London Business School. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his son and daughter, running, travel and maintaining contact with friends.
