Ireland’s Emerald Cloud strategy continues to reap rewards with Cloud HR firm Workday becoming the latest US high flyer to set up in the Republic.
Workday plans to expand its presence in Europe and the Middle East by creating 100 jobs over the next three years in Dublin.
The expansion of the company is backed by IDA Ireland. IDA chief executive Barry O'Leary said:
“Ireland's growing reputation as a leading location for Cloud Computing is enhanced by today's announcement. Workday is a highly successful company that has achieved phenomenal growth since its establishment in 2005. IDA Ireland looks forward to working with Workday to robustly drive its European growth from Ireland. ”
Ireland has already attracted the presence of Cloud giants and newcomers including Amazon, Salesforce.com and Marketo. The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, reiterated his view that Cloud is a major inward investment opportunity:
“Cloud Computing is one such sector. Over the past year we have seen several very significant announcements in this sector and the Government is working hard to ensure that the right policies are in place to ensure that we can take full advantage of that potential. ”
Workday currently employs over 950 people worldwide. It provides enterprise solutions for global human resources and financial management.
The firm – set up by Dave Duffield, the founder of PeopleSoft – is widely expected to go for an IPO this year. Reports from the US before Christmas suggest that it plans to file for an initial public offering next year that could raise as much as $500 million.
