Huddle is integrating with VMware’s Zimbra email to provide an alternative to Microsoft’s SharePoint and Exchange combination.
With the connector, email attachments can be easily saved into relevant Huddle workspaces, recipients can be added to workspace teams and address book contacts can be invited into Huddle without leaving VMware Zimbra.
Andy McLoughlin, EVP Strategy and co-founder, Huddle, commented:
“Although we recognize that the workforce isn't about to stop using email, it is vital that organizations have access to all enterprise information, including content residing in inboxes. Now, everyone can have a record of all activity surrounding a file regardless of whether the conversations happened within or across the firewall, what email client or device they are using.”
Angela Eager of market research firm TechMarketView added:
“The new integration allows users to work within Zimbra but access and use the Huddle system automatically and seamlessly, addressing the problem of poor user adoption of content management systems and the need to move to a separate application to access content and collaboration features. This is a nice development - Microsoft successfully uses the same strategy for Outlook and CRM, allowing users to transparently access CRM functionality from Outlook.”
She added:
“Huddle has its work cut out for it of course but email integration is a significant step in broadening its appeal, even if we feel it would be better if it owned the email component or at had a firmer partnership. So many SaaS offerings are point solutions struggling to compete in an environment that prefers broader-based integrated applications.”
