Well over half of employees (62%) want to see the day-to-day software they use at work transferred to the Cloud, according to a poll by supplier Virgin Media Business. In a study it carried out with 5,000 businesses, public sector organisations came out as amongst the keenest – at 61% - to access all their software for work through the Cloud.
Ahead of the government’s first Cloud-based service going online, scheduled to be live in February, one in ten public sector staff say they are already using Cloud software on a daily basis. That is behind the private sector, where 16% of firms use the technology and over a quarter (27%) are looking to add Cloud computing to their existing business model in 2012. Some 14% say they have already started their investment programme into new Cloud services.
Chief Operating Officer Tony Grace comments:
The survey does also reflect on-going uncertainty, though. A third of companies told Virgin they are still worried about data management and 28% say they still have concerns about security. Grace responds:
The research was carried out by an outfit called LM Research, which surveyed senior decision makers at organisations with over 100 staff.
